2010 Summer Apparel Trends in Bloom

Pastels, vibrant brights and floral prints have become classics for warmer weather apparel and accessories. Below are a few of the key trends for 2010:

WOMEN’S APPAREL TRENDS

Florals are everywhere. You’ll find watercolor, abstract and even photographic-looking prints, scalloped or tulip-style hems, and flower petal accents.

Polka dots, geometric prints, tie-dye, plaids and animal prints will be found alone, or mixed with florals. Multi-print styles are a key trend for summer; designers have made it simple by combining several prints into one top or dress.

Nude, neutral colors that create a barely there look have been seen on celebrities for the spring. These colors, such as blush, champagne, grey and beige are trendy in women’s tops and dresses.

Ruffles adorn many ultra feminine styles; look for tiered ruffles on shirts, skirts, dresses and even shoes.

Traditionally a cooler weather fabric, denim has now crossed into warmer weather wear. Stylists feature a lightweight chambray shirt, paired with darker denim bottoms. The well-worn look is highlighted in 2010 with jeans and shorts constructed of ripped, torn and patchwork denim.

Vests of all styles are the new warmer weather version of the cardigan and create the perfect layering piece to add flair to your ensemble.  Try a military style jacket as a quick way to update your wardrobe for the season.

Cutting edge fashionistas might dare to adopt the super-trendy hot pants or boy shorts (very short shorts), also found in a jumpsuit style. Pair them with knee high or over the knee socks to show you dare to wear the season’s hot fashions.

ACCESSORIES

Brightly colored purses and bags signal a sure sign of sunny summer days ahead. Try a vivid purple tone or a handbag with fringes to be fashion forward. Tiered and draping necklaces adorn necklines.

Summer means sandals. Gladiator styles have been popular for a couple years, but this year you’ll find them in varying heels, from flats to wedges. They are the must-have shoes of the season.

MEN’S TRENDS

Back from last year, classic cargo shorts, printed t-shirts and flip flops are still summer cool for guys. Men can update their wardrobe for 2010 with a pair of distressed or white-hot jeans, floral board shorts, and military-inspired garb like jackets, shirts and hats.
